Dreams and Psychic Dreams with Loyd Auerbach

Loyd Auerbach, MS, received his masters’ degree in parapsychology from John F. Kennedy University. He is author of Mind Over Matter; ESP, Hauntings, and Poltergeists: A Parapsychologist’s Handbook; Reincarnation, Channeling, and Possession; Psychic Dreaming; A Paranormal Casebook; and Ghost Hunting: How to Investigate the Paranormal. He is co-author (with Ed May, Joseph McMoneagle, and Victor Rubel) of ESP Wars: East and West. He is the Director of the Office of Paranormal Investigations. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Rhine Research Center.

Here he points out that disagreement still exists among researchers as to whether or not dreams are meaningful. Psychic dreams typically feel different than other dreams. They are frequently described as “more real than real”. Nuances concerning precognitive dreams are presented. Such dreams can be life-changing — usually, but not always, in positive ways. The discussion focuses on the relationship between dream states, hypnotic states, and meditative states — leading to questions about the nature of consciousness itself.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in “parapsychology” ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980).

The New Science of Epigenetics with Kenneth R. Pelletier

Kenneth R. Pelletier, MD, PhD, is professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, Medical Center. He is author of Longevity, Mind As Healer – Mind As Slayer, Toward a Science of Consciousness, Sound Mind – Sound Body, The Best Alternative Medicine, Healthy People in Unhealthy Places, and Change Your Genes – Change Your Life.

Here he describes progress in the emerging new scientific field of epigenetics. He points out that the manner in which genes express themselves is determined by diet, exercise, and mental state, in addition to other biochemical factors. Alterations to epigenetic markers can be passed on to one’s descendants — in effect, supporting the once discredited notion of Lamarckian genetics. We are at the brink of a new era of personalized medicine.

Human/Animal Communication with Karlene Stange

Karlene Stange, DVM, is author of The Spiritual Nature of Animals: A Country Vet Explores the Wisdom, Compassion, and Souls of Animals.

Here she describes how, starting as a skeptic, she sought instruction in animal communication from a professional intuitive. Along the way, she came to realize that veterinary doctors are already very skilled in this art — even though they may not consciously realize it. She provides many examples of animal communication. She also notes that, although she formulates her thoughts for the animals in English words, she experiences that the animals are able to ascertain her intentions.

Does God Exist with James P. Driscoll

James P. Driscoll, PhD, is one of the foremost critics of Renaissance literature from a Jungian perspective. He is author of Identity in Shakespearean Drama, The Unfolding God of Jung and Milton, and Shakespeare and Jung: The God in Time.

Here he distinguishes between “actual god” (a term used occasionally by Carl Jung) and social images of god that are maintained by different cultures and civilizations. He suggests that god is the organizing principle behind the entire universe and that this is akin to the organizing principle of each individual psyche. He explains that god is, somehow, intimately related to time’s irreversible nature — for it is this uncomfortable fact that generates meaning in our lives.

Psychokinesis (PK) with Loyd Auerbach

Loyd Auerbach, MS, received his masters’ degree in parapsychology from John F. Kennedy University. He is author of Mind Over Matter; ESP, Hauntings, and Poltergeists: A Parapsychologist’s Handbook; Reincarnation, Channeling, and Possession; Psychic Dreaming; A Paranormal Casebook; and Ghost Hunting: How to Investigate the Paranormal. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Rhine Research Center.

Here he suggests that the principles of sports psychology also apply to the cultivation of psychokinesis. He maintains that we ultimately use PK to control our own bodies. The wide-ranging discussion that follows covers spoon-bending, poltergeists, martial arts, magical illusions, seances, as well as apports and disappearances. Considerable emphasis is placed on overcoming the psychological resistance to either witnessing or practicing psychokinesis.

Perpetrators and Victims with Anngwyn St. Just

Anngwyn St. Just, PhD, is a social traumatologist. She is author of the two volume set of books titled Trauma: Time, Space, and Fractals. She is also author of the five volume set titled Trauma and the Human Condition. She has worked throughout the world helping victims of war and disaster.

Here she indicates that her approach to the dynamics between perpetrators and victims has been strongly influenced by the family constellation work of Bert Hellinger. She notes that victims often seek revenge and, therefore, become perpetrators themselves. She points out that victims and perpetrators share a certain traumatic bond. She hold Nelson Mandela up, among others, as an example of someone who worked to break the cycle of victimization and revenge. She distinguishes between being victimized and holding “victim consciousness”.

Messages From the Afterlife with Jonathan Beecher

Jonathan Beecher is the founder of White Crow Books. He is editor of the anthology, In Times of War: Messages of Wisdom from Soldiers in the Afterlife.

Here describes his own transformation that occurred in the year 2000 when he suffered from an accident while sleep walking. After six weeks of recovery, he found that he was a different person. A series of spiritualistic experiences led him to a quest for knowledge. He shows how his own experiences led him to accept the claims of Air Marshall Lord Dowding, commander of the Royal Air Force during WWII’s Battle of Britain. Dowding became a devoted spiritualist and organized a rescue circle. A similar circle had been organized earlier by the noted psychiatrist, Dr. Carl Wickland. In these circles, and several others, detailed cases were recorded involving communications from deceased individuals.

Animal Consciousness with Karlene Stange

Karlene Stange, DVM, is author of The Spiritual Nature of Animals: A Country Vet Explores the Wisdom, Compassion, and Souls of Animals.

Here she suggests that humans and animals share many similar conscious experiences. Science is now correcting previous mistaken beliefs that animals do not experience pain, do not show emotions, and are not even conscious. She provides many stories illustrating the enormous capacities of different animals. She maintains that these beliefs developed in order to justify cruel behavior toward animals. She shares her belief that many animals willingly sacrifice themselves for each other and for humans.

Here she points out that traumatic events, particularly those that are unresolved, tend to repeat themselves in both time and space. Sometimes this is deliberate as when terrorists choose anniversary dates of previous attacks. Mostly, it appears to be less than fully conscious. She suggests that this repetition of patterns can be understood in terms of fractal geometry. To illustrate her thesis she focuses on the massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.

Satan, Lucifer, and the Jungian Shadow with James P. Driscoll

James P. Driscoll, PhD, is one of the foremost critics of Renaissance literature from a Jungian perspective. He is author of Identity in Shakespearean Drama, The Unfolding God of Jung and Milton, and Shakespeare and Jung: The God in Time.

Here he describes Satan, Lucifer, and Prometheus as different versions of C. G. Jung’s “shadow” archetype. He evaluates the differing interpretations in theology and depth psychology. He discusses the nature of archetypes and suggests that the solar system — with sun, planets, and moons — is a useful analogy for thinking about archetypes and their interrelationships. He addresses the question of the metaphysical nature of evil.

The Hermetic Tradition and Hermes Trismegistus with Gary Lachman

Gary Lachman is the author of twenty-one books on topics ranging from the evolution of consciousness to literary suicides, popular culture and the history of the occult. He has written a rock and roll memoir of the 1970s, biographies of Aleister Crowley, Rudolf Steiner, C. G. Jung, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, Emanuel Swedenborg, P. D. Ouspensky, and Colin Wilson, histories of Hermeticism and the Western Inner Tradition, studies in existentialism and the philosophy of consciousness, and about the influence of esotericism on politics and society.

Here he points out that the Corpus Hermeticum originated in Alexandria, Egypt, during a period of fusion among Greek and Egyptian traditions. Hermes Trismegistus represents an amalgamation of the Egyptian god Thoth and the Greek god Hermes. The original literature is of unknown authorship and focuses on the attainment of higher stats of consciousness. Hermeticism serves as the backbone of the western esoteric tradition that also includes astrology, tarot, alchemy, and ceremonial magick. Hermeticism was particularly influential during the Renaissance.

The Origin and Destiny of Life with Bruce Damer

Bruce Damer, PhD, is coauthor with David Deamer, of a new theory on the origins of life that was featured in a Scientific American cover story in 2017. His professional interests also include space exploration, virtual reality, and entheogens. He is author of Avatars: Exploring and Building Virtual Worlds on the Internet.

He begins this wide-ranging discussion by describing a series of visionary experiences that began in his childhood. He describes the significance of membranes in the evolution of life on earth — and how the same principle can be applied to the migration of humans into outer space. He discusses his involvement with counter-culture figures such as Terence McKenna as well as his use of entheogens. He argues that consciousness is best understood by carefully observing nature.

Human Initiated Contact Experiences (HICE) with Joseph Burkes

Joseph Burkes, MD, is a board certified specialist in internal medicine. He is coauthor of the chapter titled “Medical Healings Reported by UAP Contact Experiencers: An Analysis of the FREE Date” in the anthology Beyond UFOs: The Science of Consciousness and Contact with Non Human Intelligence “Volume 1”.

Here he describes the details of his work with several organizations of using mental techniques including visualization and meditation to initiate visual contact with unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs). These contacts included ostensible two-way communication with glowing orbs and lights in the sky and instances of missing time. Eventually, he concluded that the intelligences behind the phenomena were capable of manipulating human consciousness and human belief systems.

Contact Modalities with Reinerio Hernandez

Rey Hernandez, JD, is a cofounder of the Edgar Mitchell Foundation for Research on Extraterrestrial and Extraordinary Experience (FREE). He is also an editor of and contributor to the anthology, Beyond UFOs: The Science of Consciousness and Contact with Non Human Intelligence, Volume 1. He works as a tax attorney.

Here he describes a series of remarkable experiences in his own life involving remarkable healing, non-human entities, and UFOs. These led him to develop the hypothesis that a variety of “contact modalities”, usually considered distinct phenomena, are all related. These include shamanic journeys, out of body experiences, ghosts and spirits, UFO, remote viewing, channeling, and mystical states of consciousness. These visionary experiences led him to contact astronaut Edgar Mitchell and subsequently create the new organization, FREE.

A Skeptical Look at Parapsychology with James E. Alcock

James E. Alcock, PhD, is professor emeritus of psychology at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is a fellow and member of the executive council of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. He is author of Parapsychology: Science or Magic, Science and Supernature: A Critical Appraisal of Parapsychology, and Belief: What It Means To Believe and Why Our Convictions Are So Compelling. He is also coauthor of An Introduction to Social Psychology.

Here he describes the history of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (formerly known as CSICOP) as an effort to counter the perceived “rising tide of superstition” in modern culture. He distinguishes between scientific parapsychology and various occult claims — while acknowledging that not all skeptics will do so. He voices his criticisms of various approaches to parapsychology research and offers his support for well-designed research in parapsychology.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Contact with Non-Human Intelligence with Robert Davis

Robert Davis, PhD, is a retired professor of neuroscience at the State University of New York. He is author of The UFO Phenomenon: Should I Believe? and Life After Death: An Analysis of the Evidence.

Here he describes the results of a survey of individuals who believe themselves to have experienced contact with non-human intelligence associated with unidentified aerial phenomena. Over 3,000 people responded to an in-depth survey. About 70% reported that their experiences had a positive impact in their life. In Search of the Afterlife with Raymond Moody

Raymond Moody, PhD, MD, is author of Life After Life, the classic book that inaugurated the scientific and academic study of near-death experiences. His other books include Glimpses of Eternity, Reunions, The Light Beyond, Life After Loss, Coming Back, and Paranormal.

Here he reflects upon his lifelong quest to better understand the mystery of death. He acknowledges the existence of the afterlife, saying that he could no longer resist the evidential strength of certain cases. He also shares his passion for the philosophical exploration of near-death reports. He explains how he came to develop a classification scheme for levels and degrees of nonsense. He points out how the study of nonsense can lead to a shift in consciousness, required to fully understand the nature of the afterlife.

The Language of Two Worlds with Lisa Smartt

Lisa Smartt, MA, is a linguist, educator, and poet. She founded The Final Words Project, an ongoing study devoted to collecting and interpreting the mysterious language at the end of lives. She is author of Words at the Threshold: What We Say When We’re Nearing Death.

Here she points out that much can be learned about the consciousness of dying individuals by paying attention to their language. One can develop an appreciation for speech that seems nonsensical by understanding that a dying person may be experiencing two different realities simultaneously. Similar patterns can often be found in individuals experiencing other altered states of awareness such as dementia or schizophrenia. Her work is largely predicated on Raymond Moody’s studies of near-death experience and the language of nonsense.

Subjectivity, the Self, and the Soul with Dani Caputi

Dani Caputi is a doctoral candidate in atmospheric science at the University of California, Davis. She is conducting an experiment on psychokinetic influence of atmospheric turbulence.

Here she maintains that in order to properly understand the nature of consciousness, it is essential to distinguish between the self as the subject of experience and the “self” as a constellation of concepts within consciousness. The conversation also covers questions of identity, memory, post-mortem survival, reincarnation, multiple personalities, chaos and turbulence.

Here she describes her life, growing up as the eldest daughter of Joseph Banks Rhine, widely regarded as the father of modern parapsychology. As a teenager, and also as an adult, she worked at the parapsychology lab at Duke University. Research at the time focused on personality and mood variables associated with ESP, psychokinesis, and precognition. The existence of psi was accepted by the researchers. She describes the great care the researchers took to prevent errors or fraud.

Remote Viewing in Nautical Archeology: The Caravel Project with Stephan A. Schwartz

Stephan A. Schwartz is a Distinguished Consulting Faculty of Saybrook University. He is the columnist for the journal Explore, and editor of the daily web publication Schwartzreport.net in both of which he covers trends that are affecting the future. His other academic and research appointments include: Senior Fellow for Brain, Mind and Healing of the Samueli Institute; founder and Research Director of the Mobius laboratory. Government appointments include Special Assistant for Research and Analysis to the Chief of Naval Operations. Schwartz was the principal researcher studying the use of Remote Viewing in archaeology. Using Remote Viewing he discovered Cleopatra’s Palace, Marc Antony’s Timonium, ruins of the Lighthouse of Pharos, and sunken ships along the California coast, and in the Bahamas. He is the author of more than 130 technical reports and papers. He has written The Secret Vaults of Time, The Alexandria Project, Mind Rover, Opening to the Infinite, and The 8 Laws of Change.

Here he describes how Christopher Columbus was forced to abandon two ships in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica, during his fourth voyage to the western hemisphere. He and his crew were marooned for over a year. For decades, nautical archeologists have been searching for these shipwrecks. Eventually, one archeologist sought the assistance of remote viewers from Schwartz’ Mobius Group. Stephan describes how he developed the Mobius consensus protocol and organized a project to locate the remnants of Columbus’ ships. The accuracy of the descriptors provided by the remote viewers was remarkably high.

Psychokinetic Weather Influence with Dani Caputi

Dani Caputi is a doctoral candidate in atmospheric science at the University of California, Davis. She is conducting an experiment on psychokinetic influence of atmospheric turbulence.

Here she maintains that shamanistic traditions suggest that psychokinetic weather influence is not a matter of “control” but more a question of gently merging psychologically with a weather system and gently guiding or inviting a new pattern. She reviews the history of research in this domain and then describes her own experimental approach. She describes the nature of atmospheric turbulence and how it can be measured.

A New Vision of the Unexplained, Part Two, with Jeffrey Kripal

Jeffrey J. Kripal is the J. Newton Rayzor Professor of Philosophy and Religious Thought and former chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Rice University in Houston, Texas. His books include Kali’s Child, Esalen, Authors of the Impossible, The Serpent’s Gift, Mutants and Mystics, The Supernatural (with Whitley Strieber), and Secret Body. He is coauthor, with Elizabeth Krohn, of Changed in a Flash: One Woman’s Near-Death Experience and Why a Scholar Thinks It Empowers Us All.

Here he shares a scholarly perspective on the non-fiction books and claims of Whitley Strieber. He describes Strieber as a prophet or shaman in a culture that has no place for prophets and shamans. He acknowledges that he differs from Strieber regarding the physicality of the events he has described. He also doubts that these circumstances are amenable to scientific evaluation. He suggests that humanistic approaches, such as hermeneutics offer much promise in understanding the mystery of Strieber’s life.

A New Vision of the Unexplained, Part One, with Whitley Strieber

Whitley Strieber is author of more than 40 books, including many novels. Among his non-fiction works are Communion: A True Story, Confirmation: The Hard Evidence of Aliens Among Us, Solving The Communion Enigma: What Is To Come?, The Secret School: Preparation for Contact, and The Key: A True Encounter. He is coauthor, with his late wife Anne Strieber, of The Communion Letters. He is coauthor, with Professor Jeffrey Kripal, of The Super Natural: A New Vision of the Unexplained. His website is http://www.strieber.com/.

Here he reviews the history of his encounters, over more than three decades, with entities that he identifies as “the visitors”. These encounters are of a wide variety and include elements that can be found elsewhere in both shamanic and ufological lore. He maintains that these strange events can best be studied, and hopefully understood, if we can let go of our preconceptions of what they might be. Some of his experiences were quite frightening and painful. Others were ecstatic. He describes his decision to accept these events in a loving manner.

What Can We Learn From Bizarre Phenomena? with Bernardo Kastrup

Bernardo Kastrup, PhD, is a computer scientist. He is author of Rationalist Spirituality, Why Materialism is Baloney, Dreamed Up Reality, Meaning in Absurdity, Brief Peeks Beyond, More Than Allegory, and The Idea of the World. He has published several papers in Scientific American arguing for metaphysical idealism.

Here he reviews a number of nonsensical events ranging from bizarre UFO encounters to religious miracles to psychedelic visions and dreams. He suggests that there are certain common themes that run through dreams, fantasies, and reports of paranormal occurrences — and that they all speak to us symbolically. He also proposes that the deep archetypes of the Jungian collective unconscious can manifest in what we think of as the physical world.

Meditation Induced Near-Death Experience with William Van Gordon

William Van Gordon, PhD, is a Chartered Psychologist who lectures and conducts research in psychology at the University of Derby in the United Kingdom. He sits on the editorial board for various academic journals including Mindfulness and Mindfulness and Compassion.
He is also co-editor of two academic anthologies: Mindfulness and Buddhist-derived Approaches in Mental Health and Addiction, and The Buddhist Foundations of Mindfulness. William has over 100 academic publications relating to the scientific study of meditation. Prior to joining academia, William was a Buddhist monk for ten years.

Here he describes a multi-year research project involving advanced Buddhist meditators who were able to enter into a particular state of consciousness very much akin to the classical near-death experience. An entire year was spent selecting and recruiting meditators who were skilled in this practice. Three additional years were spent in follow-up observations. Detailed descriptions were collected of this unusual state of consciousness. Follow-up studies are planned.

Science and the Siddhis (or Powers of Yoga) with Dean Radin

Dean Radin, PhD, is chief scientist at the Institute of Noetic Science in Novato, California. He is author of The Conscious Universe, Entangled Minds, Supernormal, and Real Magic.

Here he reviews the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, especially with regard to the description of about 25 different “siddhis” or powers that are attained by advanced practitioners. Once one has achieved a measure of enlightenment, known as samadhi, one can begin the practice of samyama which then enables a variety of parapsychological skills. However, in yoga, these are generally considered to be distractions from the ultimate goal of spiritual enlightenment. Radin compares the claims of yoga with the findings of parapsychology.

Here he describes a remote viewing experiment conducted in 2003, about six weeks prior to the capture of Saddam Hussein. A group of 47 remote viewers participating in a workshop at the Edgar Cayce Foundation endeavored to precognitively describe many details concerning the condition and situation of Saddam at the time of his capture. Many details were accurate in surprising ways, including the location and appearance of Saddam and the fact that, although he was armed, he did not resist capture.

Here he explains the significance of Elizabeth Krohn’s near-death experience. He points out that simply reading or talking about such matters helps to create a “safe space” for others who may be having similar experiences. He notes that her experience, like most NDEs, was colored by her family and religious background. He also describes Eric Wargo’s concept of “time loops”, and suggests that this model allows for a wide variety of phenomena otherwise thought to be “paranormal”.

He is past-vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology, and is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from that association for his contributions to the study of consciousness.

The Power of the Near-Death Experience, Part One with Elizabeth Krohn

Elizabeth Krohn is coauthor, with professor Jeffrey Kripal, of Changed in a Flash: One Woman’s Near-Death Experience and Why a Scholar Thinks It Empowers Us All.

Here she describes how her life was changed dramatically in 1988 when she was struck by lightning. Prior to that time, she describes herself as a conventional Houston, TX, wife and mother of two young children. She had no interest whatsoever in the paranormal. Although she was unconscious only for a matter of minutes, for her it seemed as if she was in a heavenly garden for two weeks. Subsequently, she began experiencing precognitive dreams and other psi phenomena.

The Global Consciousness Project with Roger Nelson

Roger D. Nelson, PhD, is the director of the Global Consciousness Project, an international, multi-laboratory collaboration founded in 1997 which aimed to study collective consciousness. From 1980 to 2002, he was Coordinator of Research at the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research laboratory at Princeton University. His website is
http://noosphere.princeton.edu/

Here he describes, in detail, a variety of experimental protocols involving “true” random event generators (REGs). Early work involved having the experimental subjects (called “operators”) intentionally try to influences the REGs in one of two directions. Statistically significant deviations from chance were recorded. Later work involved “field REGs” in which small devices were brought to various locations at which the researchers anticipated some form of coherent group consciousness — such as a concert. This proved to be even more statistically significant. Eventually, the Global Consciousness Project was established. It collected continuous data from numerous REGs at different locations throughout the world. Over 500 different events were tested to see if deviations from chance expectation would occur. The overall results were highly significant.

The Ideogram Controversy in Remote Viewing with Paul H. Smith

Paul H. Smith, PhD, has served twice as president of the International Remote Viewing Association an organization of which he is a founder. A former Army intelligence officer, he served for seven years as part of the military’s top-secret remote viewing program. He is author of Reading the Enemy’s Mind and The Essential Guide to Remote Viewing. He currently serves as president and chief trainer for Remote Viewing Instructional Services. His website is https://rviewer.com/.

Here he describes the history of the use of the ideogram in remote viewing. The technique was developed by Ingo Swann and was based, in part, on the drawings of children. Subsequently some remote viewing trainers have expanded the technique in order to create something of a lexicon of ambience symbols. Smith discusses both the advantages and disadvantages of this revised approach.

The Psychology of Belief with James Alcock

Here he points out that belief systems can and do result in both murders and suicides. We may pay a very high price for our beliefs; so making sure that they accurately reflect factual circumstances can be a matter of life and death. We rarely have the opportunity to conduct original research to support any of our beliefs. So, generally, we form our belief systems based on trust of various sources. Furthermore, we are all vulnerable to holding ungrounded and irrational beliefs. Periodically, it is very useful to question our beliefs.

Parapsychology at the Rhine Research Center with John G. Kruth

John G. Kruth is the Executive Director of the Rhine Research Center and the founder of the Rhine Education Center. He has been studying parapsychology informally for over 35 years, and has been a formal member of the Rhine research team since 2009. His research has included studies related to energetic healing methods, bioenergy signatures, out-of-body experiences, qualitative case studies, mind-matter interaction, and poltergeist phenomena.

Here he shares some of the history of Joseph Banks and Louisa Rhine as they developed the science of parapsychology. He describes the early years at Duke University, the subsequent establishment of the Foundation for Research on the Nature of Man, and eventually the Rhine Research Center. Struggles involved both challenges from critics and issues of addressing fraud. Today, Kruth is engaged in research concerning biophotons and their potential relation to healing and other types of psi activity.

The Flying Friar: St. Joseph of Copertino with Michael Grosso

Michael Grosso, PhD, is author of The Man Who Could Fly: St. Joseph of Copertino and the Mystery of Levitation. He also edited and wrote commentary for Wings of Ecstasy: Dominico Bernini’s Vita of St. Joseph of Copertino (1772). His other books include The Millennium Myth: Love and Death and the End of Time, Final Choice: Death or Transcendence?, and Soulmaking: Uncommon Paths to Self Understanding.

Here he reviews the historical record concerning the many varied physical feats associated with Joseph. Levitations, many of them prolonged, were witnessed on numerous occasions in front of multiple church officials. He was also associated with exotic mystical “odors of sanctity”. In addition to these physical phenomena, Joseph was also prone to visions and states of ecstasy. He was carefully scrutinized by the inquisition, and eventually canonized.

The Unification of Mind and Matter with Brian Josephson

Brian Josephson, PhD, is a Nobel Laureate physicist who is director of the Mind Matter Unification Project at Cambridge University. His recent research has revolved around intelligent processes in nature as they relate to foundational physics. He is coeditor of the anthology, Consciousness and the Physical World. His website is: http://www.tcm.phy.cam.ac.uk/~bdj10/

Here he describes various lines of investigation that point toward the role of mind-like activity in the physical world. These include nonlocality, or entanglement, in physics; the collapse of the wave packet in physics; memory in water; the field of cymatics, or the response of water to acoustical excitation; language processing in computers; and the field of biosemiotics, or the biological processing of signs and symbols. He also describes his interest in parapsychology as well as the social stigma attached to such interest.

The Flicker Filter Model of Consciousness with Imants Barušs

Imants Barušs is Professor of Psychology at King’s University College at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. He is author of The Personal Nature of Notions of Consciousness: A Theoretical and Empirical Examination of the Role of the Personal in the Understanding of Consciousness, Science as a Spiritual Practice, Alterations of Consciousness: An Empirical Analysis for Social Scientists, and Authentic Knowing: The Convergence of Science and Spiritual Aspiration. He is coauthor, with Julia Mossbridge, of Transcendent Mind: Revisioning the Science of Consciousness.

Here he describes the two main elements of the Flicker Filter model of consciousness. The “flicker” is related to Julian Barbour’s notion that time itself consists of discrete “now” moments. He proposes that these moments are mysteriously held together by fields of meaning that exist within a larger consciousness, not embedded within time. This model allows for all of the phenomena reported in the parapsychological literature. It also eliminates many of the faulty notions that Barušs associates with materialist or physicalist ontologies.

Parapsychology As a Deviant Science with James McClenon

James McClenon, PhD has been a sociology professor and licensed clinical social worker. He is author of Deviant Science: The Case of Parapsychology, Wondrous Events: Foundations of Religious Belief, Wondrous Healing: Shamanism, Human Evolution and the Origin of Relgion, and The Entity Letters: A Sociologist on the Trail of a Supernatural Mystery. His website is http://www.jamesmcclenon.com/

Here he describes how, by engaging in a sociological examination of parapsychology as a deviant science, he came to be labelled something of a deviant himself. He has travelled the world surveying people about their extraordinary experiences. He also surveyed various academics and elite scientists about their attitudes toward the paranormal. He suggests that an interest in shamanism and healing can be very positive and life-affirming.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. Julia Mossbridge, PhD, is a Visiting Scholar in the Psychology Department  at Northwestern University, a Fellow at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, the Science Director at Focus@Will Labs, and an Associated Professor in Integral and Transpersonal Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. She is the author of Unfolding: The Perpetual Science of Your Soul’s Work and The Garden: An Inside Experiment. She is also the co-author, with Imants Baruss, of Transcendent Mind: Re-thinking the Science of Consciousness. She is coauthor with Theresa Cheung of The Premonition Code: The Science of Precognition, How Sensing the Future Can Change Your Life. The website for this book is https://thepremonitioncode.com/.

Here she discusses the paradox that our understanding of time in theoretical physics differs dramatically from our day-to-day experience. She points out that personal experience is the basis of empirical science. She also describes research in parapsychology related to precognition. She and host, Jeff Mishlove, both discuss life-changing personal experiences of precognition. Then she describes her “Positive Precog” program and her vision of a world in which people skilled at precognition become central to many areas of human endeavor.

He is past-vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology, and is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from that association for his contributions to the study of consciousness.

The Deep Truth of Religious Myth with Bernardo Kastrup

Bernardo Kastrup, PhD, is a computer scientist. He is author of Rationalist Spirituality, Why Materialism is Baloney, Dreamed Up Reality, Meaning in Absurdity, Brief Peeks Beyond, More Than Allegory, and The Idea of the World. He has published several papers in Scientific American arguing for metaphysical idealism.

Here he maintains that the literal interpretation of religious myths does harm to both the myth and to ourselves. For centuries, people have understood that myths can be meaningful when interpreted metaphorically. However, more than that, religious myths can, and sometimes do, serve as pointers to states of consciousness that transcend the intellect. He compares human mythology to the operating system of a computer. We all have a mythology, even if it is that we have no mythology.
