InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in “parapsychology” ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities. Here he shares a lesson from the training program of Ted Owens, The PK Man, concerning the ability of the life force to overcome virtually all obstacles.

He points out that, in his own life, the failures far outnumber his many accomplishments. He then pays tribute to Alejandro Jodorowsky, a writer and film director who has been a great inspiration to him. After a hiatus of decades, Jodorowsky (who is now in his late 80s) is making films again.

He shares his frustration with the current political situation; and relates a personal story concerning his own health. He insists that the path forward shall require us to wrestle with the gods that are ourselves.

Driscoll, a former New Thinking Allowed guest, has devoped an innovative idea that God is time. Jeffrey explains how this notion can be of value other personally and theologically. It can also help resolve unsolved issues concerning synchronicity and extrasensory perception.

Here he discusses the biblical vision of the prophet Ezekiel and how it led to a practice known as Merkabah mysticism, i.e., traveling in dreams and in prayer to the highest throne of god. Much later, Chassidic tales of the Baal Shem Tov describe mystical journeys in a flying carriage. Jeffrey then describes Donald Keys, founder of an organization called Planetary Citizens, who wrote an autobiography describing his journeys in UFOs. This he also relates to some personal experiences with an organization called the New Frontiers Institute.

He describes two personal dreams that point toward a possible link between dreams and the afterlife. He suggests that the “psychenauts” of the future may be trained lucid dreamers. He discusses the importance of keeping a dream journal. Also, he refers to claims of esoteric dream schools.

James Tunney, LLM, is an Irish Barrister who has lectured on legal matters throughout the world. He is a poet, a visual artist, and also author of The Mystical Accord: Sutras to Suit Our Times, Lines for Spiritual Evolution. In addition, he has written two dystopian novels — Blue Lies September and Ireland I Don’t Recognize Who She Is. His website is http://www.jamestunney.com.

Here he discusses a number of individuals and traditions that are, in the minds of many, associated with the dark side of mysticism. These include sorcery, witchcraft, paganism, and Satanism — as well as Rasputin, Joan of Arc, Trotsky, and Hitler. In each case, he maintains that one must examine the evidence carefully and not simply accept popular opinion. The discussion also focuses on Jesus’ admonition to “resist not evil”.

Here he confesses that he is not the most disciplined person in the world. During his lifetime he has practiced various disciplines, such as long-distance running or yoga, but they have generally fallen away. Presently, creating the daily InPresence monologs has become something of a discipline. He brings up William James’ call for a “strenuous” mode of ethical behavior, as being a requirement of our time. He urges viewers to consider small changes they might make each day to increase discipline and become the best versions of themselves.

Here he points out that, at age 71, he is entering the phase of life known as “old age”. Born in 1946, he is also in the vanguard of the “baby boom” generation. He notes that, during old age, the body gradually loses its functionality. In effect, it is a slow preparation for death. Because of financial and political circumstances, elderly people will increasingly need to rely on their own inner resources. This will require a strong spiritual and psychic foundation for the trials and ordeals of aging.

Here he maintains that happiness need not be dependent upon the external circumstances of one’s life. In fact, surveys have shown that the happiest people do not necessarily come from the wealthiest countries. The secret to happiness is a commitment that one makes to oneself. It is very similar to the self-love affirmation presented in InPresence 0002. Once one is committed to finding happiness in all circumstances, various strategies for so doing are available for dealing with the inevitable ups and downs of life.

Here he shares his perspective, as a spiritualist minister, on living and dying. He shares stories involving a near-death experience, spiritualist mediumship, synchronicity, the death of a beautiful young woman, and the meaning of life. As in previous interviews, Darryl expresses himself passionately. While intelligent and erudite, his conversational style is very different from other guests on this channel with more academic backgrounds.

Here he proclaims that money is at the root of our spirituality, and he specifically refers to the root chakra as the center of our hoarding instinct. He also addresses the imbalances concerning money on this planet where the wealthy suffer from an epidemic of obesity, while the poor are malnourished and even starving to death. He also brings up his own personal interest in financial forecasting and following how various industries come in and out of favor. This, he says, is a reflection of global consciousness.

A decade later, after much work on himself, Jeffrey created his first Rainbow YinYang image — a symbol of wholeness. He points out that art is a way of expressing outwardly what we see when we look inward.

He notes that only one dissatisfied person in eight will even bother to complain. Those who take the time and trouble to complain, and risk being treated rudely, should be thanked for providing useful feedback. He also points out that treating complaints as gifts is just a valuable strategy in one’s personal life as it is in business.

He emphasizes the importance of the 1969 decision by the Council of the American Association for the Advancement of Science to recognize the Parapsychological Association as an affiliate organization.

Here he compares Hindu and Buddhist ideals of enlightenment with the Freudian notion that mystical states represent a regression to an infantile state. He points to the work of Abraham Maslow and the important role of “peak experiences” in the self-actualization process. He also provides examples of individuals who claimed to have achieved states of enlightenment instantaneously. Noting that many supposed gurus have “feet of clay”, he suggests that we can be enlightened in some areas of our life and not in others.

Here he describes his family history relative to the Jewish religion. One set of grandparents were highly religious. The others were very secular. Jeffrey had a strong religious education, but ended up leaving the religion for about thirty years — before experiencing a “t’shuvah” or turning back to Judaism. He became very intensely involved with Judaism until the death of his father and a spiritual experience following the funeral.

Here he describes the active community of occultists with whom he associated in the early 1970s in Berkeley, California. One Berkeley student, Isaac Bonewits, wrote a book called “Real Magic”. Aleister Crowley’s writings were popular. Jeffrey describes a harrowing experience in which he invoked magical principles in order to correct an injustice. While his goal was accomplished, the process taught him not to play with lower forms of magick.

Here he points out that the term “metaphysics” has both a popular and an academic, philosophical meaning — and that there is some overlap. One can think of metaphysics as a branch of ontology — the inquiry into what is ultimately real. The logical positivists believed that metaphysics is nonsensical; however this view is on the wane. Sorokin, in sociology, holds that metaphysics serves as a glue to hold cultural eras together. Pragmatists examine whether different metaphysical views have practical consequences.

Here he discusses two competing theories of truth — that it is entirely a social construction and that there are eternal, immutable truths that we can discover. He also discusses a third approach, that of American pragmatism, in which the criterion for truth is whether a particular worldview has practical applications. He suggests that viewers examine their own beliefs about reality to determine whether or not they are working pragmatically.

Here he shares two poems that came to him in dreams — about the Russian psychic, Wolf Messing, and about the gods of ancient Egypt. The dreams were very vivid, and upon awakening Jeffrey understood that he would be able to write the poems down — which he did. He realizes that one cannot force dreams to produce poems. However, the key is to be ready when the dream offers such an opportunity.

The discovery only occurred because of the persistence of Jeffrey’s friend, Gary Smith, who engaged to support of geologists and paleontologists. Jeffrey encourages viewers to see if they have dinosaur tracks, metaphorically speaking, in their lives waiting to be discovered.

Here he shares two of the most important lessons he has learned in his life. He points out that he did not always have self-esteem. But, while working as a bellhop, he observed another bellhop who seemed to be extremely popular with everyone. This resulted in the second secret. The most important secret of all is how to process the attempts of other individuals to devalue you as a human being, and how to understand why you, occasionally, wish to devalue others.

Here he describes the procedure used in the Catholic Church for documenting the miracles of saints. He notes that parapsychologists sometimes interpret these events as examples of extrasensory perception and psychokinesis. He then reviews the spiritual teachings embodied in A Course in Miracles. Finally, he suggests that the ultimate miracle is that we exist at all — that there is something in the universe rather than nothing. Appreciation of this fundamental opens us up to experiencing miracles in our lives.

Here he reviews the concept of unconditional self-love and shows that warm, positive regard for all other people is a corollary. In addition, taking complete responsibility for all of one’s actions is also a corollary of unconditional self-love. Furthermore, this means allowing all other adults the same right — to be completely responsibility for their own actions. Jeffrey then explains how this view is consistent with feminism and why he believes that adults should neither dominate nor be dominated by other adults.

Jason Reza Jorjani, PhD, is a philosopher and author of Prometheus and Atlas, World State of Emergency, Lovers of Sophia, Novel Folklore: The Blind Owl of Sadegh Hedayat, and Iranian Leviathan: A Monumental History of Mithra’s Abode.

Here he reviews the history of philosophical arguments relating to either the necessity or appropriateness of truth distortions. The discussion includes the thoughts of Pythagoras, Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Nietzsche, William James, and Leo Strauss. Jorjani defends the application of the noble lie in some circumstances, and points out how it has been despicably abused in others. The conversation concludes with a pointed review of Jorjani’s own involvement with the Iranian renaissance movement and the alt-right.

Here he shares his feelings about having conducted video conversations with more than 50 individuals who are now deceased. He describes musician, George Harrison’s wish to die consciously, and he discusses the “art of dying” as it has been presented in various cultures, including Egypt and China. He also reviews some findings from near-death research, particularly the life-review experience reported by some.

Here he discusses William James’ famous essay, published in 1910, that argues eloquently for a new solution to end war based on redirecting the positive military virtues of honor, glory, self-sacrifice, and tests of manhood. Jeffrey also brings up James’ interest in Hinduism and contrasts James’ philosophy with the cosmic distance to the consequences of war argued in the classic Bhagavat Gita.

Here he reviews a number of theories concerning UFOs. Are they psychokinetic projections? Are they extraterrestrial visitors? Are they time travelers (i.e., humans) visiting from the future? Do they come from hyperspace dimensions? Are they part of a control system manipulating the human species? Are they manifestations of the trickster archetype? Jeffrey suggests that many different phenomena get lumped together under the label of UFOs. The field has something of a circus atmosphere and the “trickster” seems to always be nearby.

Here he highlights the distinction between facts and theories in science. He notes that some claim parapsychology to be a pseudoscience because they believe in a “rational universe” in which psychic phenomena are impossible. However, theoretical beliefs should begin with empirical observations, not deny their existence. He reviews a number of historical theories, such as animal magnetism, that were based on cutting edge ideas of their age, but later turned out to be inconsistent with science.

Here he discusses some of the paradoxes involved in seeking or receiving help from those with psychic and intuitive gifts. He invokes the notion of “karma” to explain the unevenness of the results he has observed in his own life. He also describes several instances in which psychic guidance proved to be incredibly helpful. Nevertheless, he explains that he has inevitably been disappointed by psychic readings.

Here he describes the culminating work of William James’ illustrious career. His five essays on radical empiricism were published posthumously. James was thoroughly a product of the nineteenth century era of American industrialism. However, he rebelled against the mechanistic thinking of his age. His work on radical empiricism represents an effort to integrate his interest in mysticism and psychical research with western philosophy.

Here he describes a number of experiences involving the controversial Israeli psychic, Uri Geller, whom he has known since 1973 when he sponsored Geller’s first, major public appearance in the United States. He reviews personal accounts of psychokinetic metal bending, as well as research reports and comments by hostile critics. He concludes by urging viewers to give Geller the benefit of the doubt, noting that the history of shamanism shows that genuine psi conducive states are sometimes triggered by trickery.

Here he describes how he participated in a video recording with hypnotherapist Martin Rossman in which he established a synchronistic connection with the ancient Roman philosopher, Lucius Annaeus Seneca. Seneca was also a playwrite, scientist, and statesman. He was the tutor of Nero and ran the Roman empire for five years. Jeffrey maintains that historical figures are available to offer guidance and wisdom to those who are open.

Peter B. Todd, MAPS, a psychotherapist with a Jungian orientation, is author of The Individuation of God: Integrating Science and Religion. He experienced clinical death, during cardiac surgery, in 2005, and was subsequently revived. He was also a gold medalist at the 1982 Gay Games in San Francisco.

Here he suggests that the concept of an Omega Point can be understood both in theological and in evolutionary terms. He focuses on the writings of the Jesuit scientist and theologian Teilhard de Chardin who proposed that the cosmic, or archetypal, Christ serves as an attractor drawing humanity into an awareness of his consciousness. As the world exists with god, so god is evolving as we evolve.

Here he discusses the life and work of psychiatrist Wilhelm Reich, who is widely regarded as having introduced the importance of the human body into the field of psychotherapy. Reich died in a federal prison in 1957 after having been convicted of medical malpractice and diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. However, he was a very important cultural and scientific figure. Today, the Journal of Organomy publishes research articles based upon his theories.

He notes that each of them offer opportunities to tap into the subconscious mind and to liberate psi-related information. While encouraging viewers to experiment with divination, he offers a number of cautions. In particular, he emphasizes the need to maintain a healthy, positive attitude toward oneself.

Here he explores the Tantric tradition especially as it pertains to the acquisition of psi abilities. He describes Tantra as a disciplined approach to experiment with societal taboos. He contrasts it with more mainstream forms of spirituality that warn against the deliberate cultivation of psychic abilities, for various reasons. He advocates a middle path that appreciates both approaches.

Here he points out that descriptions of the human aura were popularized by the Theosophical Society during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Various images are shown. Jeffrey compares descriptions of the aura with those of the human biofield and shows that they are somewhat different. He then discusses a psychological phenomenon known as synesthesia and discusses its potential relationship to psychic functioning.
