Alexander Moreira-Almeida, MD, is professor of psychiatry at the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF). He is founder and Director of the Research Center in Spirituality and Health – NUPES-UFJF, Brazil. He is co-editor of two anthologies, Exploring Frontiers of the Mind-Brain Relationship and Spirituality and Mental Health Across Cultures. He is coauthor of the new book, Science of Life After Death. Here he identifies the primary scientific objection to postmortem survival as physicalism, the metaphysical notion that nature is entire based on matter and energy. He points out that this common notion within academia is not a requirement of science. In fact, it has long been disputed within philosophy, going back to Plato, and is not accepted by many Brazilian psychiatrists and academics. He describes research with the Brazilian medium, Chico Xavier. He also describes research on reincarnation and on near-death experiences.

Linda shares that healing from trauma is always possible. Dreams can bring wisdom and messages from the unconscious to conscious awareness. Not all nightmares are indicative of trauma. Even frightening dreams can bare gifts. We can heal from trauma and grief by having dreams for ourselves and others or by having precognitive dreams and visitations from deceased loved ones. A person can move from post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD) to post-traumatic spiritual growth (PTSG).

Charles Upton’s first books of poetry were published in 1968 and 1969 by Lawrence Ferlinghetti of City Light Books in San Francisco. He was then considered the youngest member of the “beat generation” as he was still in high school. He has subsequently written many books associated with the traditionalist school of spirituality including The Science of the Greater Jihad, System of the Antichrist, Vectors of the Counter-Initiation, Folk Metaphysics, Alien Disclosure Deception: The Metaphysics of Social Engineering, and Day and Night on the Sufi Path. Here he describes several dreams and synchronicities that provided him with a personal window into the afterlife, particularly those involving his poetic mentor, Lew Welch, who died of a suicide. These examples illustrate his sense of how a soul might progress in the supersensible realm. He also points out that the premier metaphysician of the traditionalist movement, René Guénon, did not accept reincarnation as traditionally taught. Instead he argues that memories can persist and be transferred to individuals, a process referred to as metempsychosis. He discusses differences between traditionalist and “new age” perspectives.

William Peters, M.Ed., MFT, is a licensed psychotherapist at the Family Therapy Institute in Santa Barbara, specializing in end-of-life counseling as a means toward psycho-spiritual evolution. He is author of At Heaven’s Door: What Shared Journeys to the Afterlife Teach About Dying Well and Living Better. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Shared Crossing Project where he and his research team collect and study extraordinary end-of-life experiences through the Shared Crossing Research Initiative. He explains that experiences with the light occur in about 75% of near-death experiences (NDEs) and 25% of shared death experiences (SDEs). The light seems to be a destination in the NDE. There are more presentations of light in the SDE. The light acts as a portal or bridge that come down as cylinders. Light beings may come out of the light to greet the dying. The SDE experiencer may accompany the dying up cascades of light or observe their loved one ascend into the light. He shares ways to have a SDE with a loved one or a pet. He says that the light is synonymous with love and consciousness and is a sacred unifying source found in spiritual traditions.

Reinerio Hernandez, JD, MCP, is currently the Director of the Consciousness and Contact Research Institute (CCRI). He is editor of several anthologies including Beyond UFOs, and the first two volumes of A Greater Reality. He is author of The Mind of God: A Spiritual-Virtual Reality Model of Consciousness & The Contact Modalities.

Here he emphasizes his core argument that there is a unity behind UFO encounters, near-death experiences, out-of-body experiences, entheogenic experiences, mystical experiences, apports, materializations and other events associated with high-strangeness. He refers to these as “contact modalities.” Although he admits that he cannot specify the precise workings of that unity, he attributes it to “the mind of God.” He maintains that consciousness is fundamental and that what we perceive as the physical world is, in effect, a virtual realty, or a projection from a higher spiritual reality. He suggests that the best metaphor for this projection is to think in terms of Russian nesting dolls.

William Bengston, PhD, has recently completed twelve years as president of the Society for Scientific Exploration. He is author of The Energy Cure: Unravelling the Mystery of Hands-On Healing, Chasing the Cure: An Effective Alternative for Cancer and Other Diseases, and Hands-On Healing: A Training Course for the Energy Cure. He is a professor of sociology at St. Joseph’s University in New York.

Here he describes his journey of five decades practicing and researching healing techniques. He has worked as a healer, partnering with numerous research laboratories – resulting in the publication of many, peer-reviewed, scientific papers. Dr. Bernard Beitman, MD, is a Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia and former Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is the first psychiatrist since Carl Jung to attempt to systematize the study of coincidences. He has edited two issues of Psychiatric Annals that focus on coincidences, and is the founder of The Coincidence Project, that is a global initiative cultivating world-wide use of coincidence, synchronicity, and serendipity. Bernard shares that a meaningful coincidence, synchronicity, and serendipity are a coming together of apparently unrelated events, by cause, in a surprising and unexpected way. The psychosphere – our mental atmosphere – is the medium in which we exchange energy and information. Love and connection seem to increase the probability of meaningful coincidences. They can occur in times of great emotion, need, and stressors. A majority believe that God or the Universe make them happen. He says we play a role in them and have much more of an ability to know what’s going on around us than we think. He encourages people to talk to each other about meaningful coincidences. They may help increase awareness, open to possibilities, help with decision-making, find purpose, and reduce challenges in relationships and on planet earth.

John was born, into a divided Apartheid South Africa, with the mark of the sangoma on his face – a band of white birth skin around the eyes. He was serving in the South African army as a medic (during the war with Angola in the 1980s) when he had a strong, prophetic dream calling him to train as a Xhosa sangoma. He suffered from the thwasa, a severe period of ill-health that is inherent in all ancient shamanic cultures, which can only be cured through apprenticeship to a shamanic teacher. Because of the restrictions of Apartheid (which ended in 1994) it would take John seven years to find a Xhosa teacher. He returned to post-apartheid South Africa and completed a 10 year apprenticeship with a medicine woman from the Xhosa Tribe. His website is johnlockley.com.

John shares how he became a sangoma – a traditional priest and healer in the Xhosa tribe – the same tribe as Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. The name he was given, Ucingolwendamba, means messenger or connector between people and cultures. A shaman is a spirit doctor of humanity who can help heal the split ­– or apartheid – between the heart and the mind, and between man and nature. He begins with a chanting meditation that calls in the great ones and ancestors to help us realize our humanity (Ubuntu) in this world and the next. He shares how to connect to your inner nature so you may connect to nature outside of yourself. He encourages everyone to develop qualities of kindness, compassion, and patience.

David Hanscom, M.D. is author of, Back in Control: A Surgeon’s Roadmap Out of Chronic Pain and Do You Really Need Spine Surgery?: Take Control with a Spine Surgeon’s Advice. Dr. Hanscom is an orthopedic complex spinal deformity surgeon who quit his surgical practice in 2019 to focus on teaching people how to break loose from the grip of chronic mental and physical pain – with and without surgery. His insights arose out of escaping from his own 15-year ordeal of suffering with severe chronic pain. As he began to share his approaches with his patients, a predictable sequence of learning evolved. Dr. Hanscom contends that the concept of self-esteem is the mother of all cognitive distortions. Self-esteem is an attempt to create stories about the self that are based on judgment and ego. These stories are often cognitive distortions that suppress normal survival reactions, such as anxiety and anger. Obsessive thought patterns or unpleasant repetitive thoughts are driven by an effort to avoid survival reactions. Neuroscience research shows that attachment to these thoughts can cause physical and emotional pain. The way toward love is by becoming aware of cognitive distortions, separating from thoughts with mindfulness, non-attachment to the ego, compassion, and nurturing joy.

Matthew McKay, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, professor of psychology at the Wright Institute, co-founder of Haight Ashbury Psychological Services, founder of the Berkeley CBT Clinic, and co-founder of the Bay Area Trauma Recovery Clinic, which serves low-income clients. He has authored and co-authored more than 40 books, including The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook, Seeking Jordan: How I Learned the Truth about Death and the Invisible Universe, The Luminous Landscape of the Afterlife: Jordan’s Message to the Living on What to Expect After Death, and Love in the Time of Impermanence. After his son was murdered at the age of 23, Matthew learned how to channel and communicate with him. Through messages from his son, Jordan, he shares that the love between all souls continues in the afterlife. Matthew states that love is what connects everything. The purpose of life is to learn how to love in the face of pain. While much of what we experience in life is impermanent, the soul, consciousness, and love continue. Catherine Shainberg, PhD, is a transpersonal psychologist, healer, and teacher with a private practice in New York City. She is the lineage holder of the Kabbalah of Light. Robert Bosnak, PsyA, is a Jungian psychoanalyst who graduated from the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich in 1977. He pioneered the Embodied Imagination method, and his current interest is focused on exploring Embodied Intelligence (MQ). He is a Past President of the International Association for the Study of Dreams and founder of the Santa Barbara Healing Sanctuary. Robert has written A Little Course In Dreams and Embodiment: Creative Imagination in Medicine, Art and Travel. Most recently he has written an alchemical novel in four volumes titled Red Sulphur. Here he notes that all dreams entail embodied imagination insofar as dreamers feel themselves to be in an actual place with an actual body of some sort. He describes his method of working with dreams. It entails activating a “flashback” of the dream that leads his clients and students right back into their dream experience. He describes his approach as one of radical agnosticism, insofar as he (unlike Freud or Jung) holds no particular position regarding the nature or structure of the psyche. He expresses more interest in the lived experience of the dream than its interpretation.

Michael Daw began his PhD studies the University of Northampton in March 2020. His research examines the potential link between psychic functioning, spiritual experiences, and dietary practices – especially veganism and vegetarianism, but also fasting. This work is supervised by Prof Chris Roe and Dr Callum Cooper, both previous guests of NTA. He is formerly a software engineer and has worked for twenty years in support of leading scientific research from materials science to biomedicine in three of the UK’s largest universities.

Here he shares the preliminary results of his investigations. His first study involved in-depth interviews with a group of professional psychic practitioners concerning their dietary practices and how they felt their psi abilities were influenced by both vegetarianism and fasting. Their responses were surprisingly positive. He also conducted a survey, with over 1,000 participants, in which he also found that vegetarianism and fasting correlated positively with reports of subjective paranormal experiences. In additional, he has reviewed the history of similar beliefs concerning diet that can be found in spiritual traditions throughout the world.

Here he explains that psychologists, such as Carl G. Jung and James Hillman (and himself), are interested in alchemy because it provides many useful metaphors for human transformation. He points to the history of alchemy as instrumental in our understanding of science and medicine. He discusses such concepts as the philosopher’s stone, the alchemical marriage, and purification. Dr. Hanscom went from being a fearless spine surgeon to depressed and suicidal. He describes his own journey out of chronic pain and anxiety. He describes anxiety as an ‘activated threat response.’ Unpleasant repetitive thoughts can keep a person in a state of threat, cause inflammation, compromise the immune system, and cause physical and emotional pain. Sustained stress can cause physical and mental disease. Repressed thoughts and emotions are more of a threat than ones that are expressed. He offers ways to lower an activated threat response by diverting thoughts, calming down the nervous system, and engaging in activities that are pleasant and enjoyable.

Stephan A. Schwartz is a columnist for the journal Explore, and editor of the daily web publication Schwartzreport.net in both of which he covers trends that are affecting the future. Schwartz has been the principal researcher studying the use of Remote Viewing in archaeology. Using Remote Viewing he discovered Cleopatra’s Palace, Marc Antony’s Timonium, ruins of the Lighthouse of Pharos, and sunken ships along the California coast, and in the Bahamas. He is the author of more than 130 technical reports and papers. He has written The Secret Vaults of Time, The Alexandria Project, Mind Rover, Opening to the Infinite, and The 8 Laws of Change.

Here he maintains that there is not sufficient discussion about the real prospects for creating superior human beings based upon genetic engineering and other technologies. He also maintains that, while such exotic solutions will become available to the very rich, the daily choices made by average human beings can also have the effect, through epigenetics, of improving the gene pool. He argues that the world will be a much better place when individuals make their choices well-being as the goal.

Charles Upton’s first books of poetry were published in 1968 and 1969 by Lawrence Ferlinghetti of City Light Books in San Francisco. He was then considered the youngest member of the “beat generation” as he was still in high school. He has subsequently written many books associated with the traditionalist school of spirituality including The Science of the Greater Jihad, System of the Antichrist, Vectors of the Counter-Initiation, Folk Metaphysics, Alien Disclosure Deception: The Metaphysics of Social Engineering, and Day and Night on the Sufi Path. Here he explains that Traditionalism is a particular version of Perennialism. It is associated primarily with René Guénon and Frithjof Schuon. It is distinct from the more heterodox approach of Aldous Huxley. Traditionalists feel that the orthodox systems of the world’s major religions afford the best possibilities for spiritual attainment. They particularly frown upon syncretism, i.e., the tendency to try and combine the best practices of diverse traditions. Frithjof Schuon, however, acknowledged that he did, indeed, practice a form of syncretism. This led Upton to attribute antinomianism to Schuon.

James Tunney, LLM, is an Irish barrister who has lectured on legal matters throughout the world. Jeffrey Mishlove describes a series of events, going back to the 1970s and into the present day, in which unusual events involving hawks appear to evoke the archetypal god Horus. These events are associated with UFO sightings, psychic powers, healing, and ominous warnings. The events include descriptions by Andrija Puharich of his interactions with the Israeli psychic, Uri Geller. Also implicated is the prominent psychic, Ray Stanford, twin brother of the parapsychologist, Rex Stanford. These events are probably best understood in the context of Jeffrey’s concept of “archetypal synchronistic resonance.”

Paul shares that the norm may be that most people, including mental health practitioners, have psychic and paranormal experiences. However, people often don’t share their experiences for fear of being thought of as crazy or diagnosed with a mental health disorder. He differentiates between what may be a psychic experience or a pathology. If the experience is comforting or helpful, it is usually not a pathology. If the experience is distressing or negatively impacts their life, it may need closer attention and care. Being believed about their experience can, in and of itself, be healing. Not being believed can have detrimental effects. He encourages mental health practitioners to be aware of their biases and judgments that impact their clients’ health and well-being. Mental health practitioners want more education and training about these experiences to be better equipped to help their clients. All people are worthy of love, dignity, and respect.

Desmarquet describes how he was abducted by very kind and attractive, 8-foot tall, hermaphroditic, humanoid aliens and taken to their advanced planet. The general (albeit not specific) features of Desmarquet’s story, factually true or not, are consistent with many similar accounts by other supposed UFO contactees. Stephan A. Schwartz is a Distinguished Consulting Faculty of Saybrook University. He is the columnist for the journal Explore, and editor of the daily web publication Schwartzreport.net in both of which he covers trends that are affecting the future. His other academic and research appointments include: Senior Fellow for Brain, Mind and Healing of the Samueli Institute; founder and Research Director of the Mobius laboratory. Government appointments include Special Assistant for Research and Analysis to the Chief of Naval Operations. Schwartz was the principal researcher studying the use of Remote Viewing in archaeology. Using Remote Viewing he discovered Cleopatra’s Palace, Marc Antony’s Timonium, ruins of the Lighthouse of Pharos, and sunken ships along the California coast, and in the Bahamas. He is the author of more than 130 technical reports and papers. He has written The Secret Vaults of Time, The Alexandria Project, Mind Rover, Opening to the Infinite, and The 8 Laws of Change.

Here he reviews his earlier project, starting in 1978, of asking remote viewers to describe life in the year 2050. Recently he initiated a new project to look at the year 2060, so that it could be compared to his 2050 results. He describes his careful use of consensus methodology in remote viewing. Furthermore, he is now able to take advantage of several analytical tools involving “big data” that were not available for the earlier research. Preliminary results suggest that, by 2060, society will have adjusted to an enormous transformating occuring between 2040 and 2045.

David Hanscom, MD, is author of, Back in Control: A Surgeon’s Roadmap Out of Chronic Pain and Do You Really Need Spine Surgery?: Take Control with a Spine Surgeon’s Advice. Dr. Hanscom is an orthopedic complex spinal deformity surgeon who quit his surgical practice in 2019 to focus on teaching people how to break loose from the grip of chronic mental and physical pain – with and without surgery. His insights arose out of escaping from his own 15-year ordeal of suffering with severe chronic pain. As he began to share his approaches with his patients, a predictable sequence of learning evolved. Dr. Hanscom shares that chronic pain has its roots in anxiety. Most surgeries related to chronic pain are being done on anxiety and are unnecessary. All chronic mental and physical disease have the same common origin of inflammation that is caused by an elevated threat response and anxiety. Two-thirds of Americans are raised in traumatic environments that elevate their threat response. He describes his own journey out chronic pain. Resolving pain and anxiety is a multipronged approach that includes meditation, sleeping and eating well, and exercise. Expressive writing is emphasized to alleviate suppressed thoughts and anxiety. Spirituality is ultimately the answer to heal pain and thrive.

William Peters, M.Ed., MFT, is a licensed psychotherapist at the Family Therapy Institute in Santa Barbara, specializing in end-of-life counseling as a means toward psycho-spiritual evolution. He explains that shared death experiences (SDEs) have many of the same features as a near-death experience (NDE). However, in the SDE it is the living person who experiences what the dying person experiences. He describes that SDEs can occur physically at the bedside or remotely with four distinct ways that people experience them. After having an SDE, most people report that it lessens or removes their grief and fear of death and dying, they become more spiritual, and they are convinced that there is a benevolent afterlife.

Charles Upton’s first books of poetry were published in 1968 and 1969 by Lawrence Ferlinghetti of City Light Books in San Francisco. He was then considered the youngest member of the “beat generation” as he was still in high school. He has subsequently written many books associated with the traditionalist school of spirituality including The Science of the Greater Jihad, System of the Antichrist, Vectors of the Counter-Initiation, Folk Metaphysics, Alien Disclosure Deception: The Metaphysics of Social Engineering, and Day and Night on the Sufi Path. Angela Ford was a member of the U.S. Army remote viewing unit at Fort Meade, Maryland, from 1986 to 1995 – with some legendary success stories. Later, she travelled to Russia with physicist Edwin May to meet her cold war counterparts there.

Here she describes how she practiced a form of channeling, i.e., automatic writing, while working in the Army’s remote viewing unit. This practice was frowned upon by those who held to a strict interpretation of the proper protocols for remote viewing. However, the automatic writing led to several successful drug interdictions and other intelligence operations. She points out that the primary requirement for remote viewing, or channeling, is that the percipient be blind as to the actual target.

Evelyn Elsaesser is an independent researcher and expert on death-related experiences, notably spontaneous and direct After-Death Communications (ADCs), Near-Death Experiences (NDEs), and End-of-Life Experiences (ELE). Evelyn shares that After-Death Communications (ADCs) are common, normal, natural, and healthy. Her research estimates that spontaneous ADCs occur in 50-60% of the population. Contacts from the deceased come from those who shared an extremely close emotional bond with the living, such as parents, spouse or partners, family, friends, and colleagues. Spontaneous ADCs can occur during sleep and daytime where the deceased may be perceived through sight as a physical apparition, touch, sound, a scent, or a sensing of presence. The mood of the deceased is often serene, compassionate, and eager to comfort the living. Fear of death significantly decreases for those who have been contacted the deceased. Love, affection, and tenderness have survived death. The main message is, “I am alive and well. I am still here with you.”

In 2002, a film was made based on Keel’s book, The Mothman Prophecies. Raynes points out that the actual investigation was more complex than was revealed in the movie. He describes his own research into this case as well as that of others. In one related, and well-documented, episode, Keel had a lengthy visit from a friend who was deceased. Caroline Cory is a filmmaker, author, teacher, and healer. Her books include Holy Crocodile: Stories of Saints and the Animals Who Helped Them, The Visible and Invisible Worlds of God, God Among Us: Inside the Mind of Divine Masters, and The Divine Plan: Now and Beyond 2250. Her documentaries include Superhuman: From the Invisible to the Visible. Other films include E.T. Contact: They Are Here, I Am The Universe/I Am Love, and Among Us. Here she describes in detail how her life history as a psychic experiencer led her to direct and film this unique project. Based on frequent UFO sightings reported near Catalina Island, off the California coast, she put together three teams of researchers – armed with extensive photographic and scientific equipment. One team was on the island. Another in Laguna Beach on the mainland. A third team was a mobile unit along the California coastline. The project ran for five days and captured anomalous activity.

Paul H. Smith, PhD, is a founder and past-president of the International Remote Viewing Association. A former Army intelligence officer, he served for seven years as part of the military’s top secret remote viewing program. Later, he earned a doctoral degree in philosophy. He is the author of Reading the Enemy’s Mind and The Essential Guide to Remote Viewing. He currently serves as president and chief trainer of Remote Viewing Instructional Services.

Here he points out that his remote-viewing mentor, Ingo Swann, expressed concern that alien entities were influencing earth’s population so as to stifle cultivation of our parapsychological skills. Swann felt that human have enormous psychic potentials and aliens find this threatening. He provides some details of his own potential alien encounters in the context of remote viewing. The conversation includes a philosophical analysis of the problems associated with interpreting the consciousness of other beings.

Charles Upton’s first books of poetry were published in 1968 and 1969 by Lawrence Ferlinghetti of City Light Books in San Francisco. He was then considered the youngest member of the “beat generation” as he was still in high school. He has subsequently written many books associated with the traditionalist school of spirituality including The Science of the Greater Jihad, System of the Antichrist, Vectors of the Counter-Initiation, Folk Metaphysics, and Alien Disclosure Deception: The Metaphysics of Social Engineering.

Here he notes that René Guénon wrote about several types of initiation that deviate from authenticity: anti-initiation (i.e., materialism), pseudo-initiation (i.e., fantasy), and counter-initiation (i.e., potentially, if not actually, evil). He proposes that counter-initiation is the ultimate conspiracy theory – the conspiracy behind all other harmful conspiracies. He provide a number of examples, including Satanism, UFO cults, and Aztec ritual sacrifice. He argues that Sufism, when removed from its essential Islamic context – as well as other efforts to form universal religions – may be approaching counter-initiation.
