The Primacy of Consciousness with Eben Alexander

Eben Alexander, MD, is a former professor of neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School and author of Proof of Heaven, The Map of Heaven, and (with Karen Newell) Living in a Mindful Universe.

Here he maintains that the materialist paradigm, in which he was educated as a neurosurgeon, has made no progress whatsoever in clarifying the nature of consciousness. He claims that it is impossible for materialism or physicalism to ever explain consciousness. He notes that many eminent philosophers have suggested that consciousness, not matter, is primary. He points to many lines of research that defy materialist explanations — remote viewing, near-death experience, acquired savant syndrome, and terminal lucidity.

New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in “parapsychology” ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980).

The Chess Game From Beyond The Grave with Vernon Neppe

Vernon Neppe, MD, PhD, FRSSAf, is a neuropsychiatrist and head of the Pacific Neuropsychiatric Institute in Seattle. He is a former president of the South African Society for Psychical Research. He is author of Cry the Beloved Mind: A Voyage of Hope, Reality Begins with Consciousness: A Paradigm Shift that Works (written with physicist Edward Close), The Déjà Vu Trilogy, and Innovative Psychopharmacotherapy. His professional publications number over 700. Dr Neppe has amplified many of his concepts in two of the websites linked with his work. On www.Brainvoyage.com, his books are amplified. www.VernonNeppe.org is his gateway and includes more information on the Neppe-Close model of the Triadic Distinction Vortical Paradigm.

Here he provides a detailed analysis of a chess match played between a living grandmaster, Victor Korchnoi and an ostensible deceased grandmaster, Géza Maróczy, whose moves were communicated through the auspices of a spiritualist medium using automatic writing. Neppe argues that this is a strong case supporting the hypothesis of survival of consciousness after death. It combines an unusual degree of accurate information with a high level of chess skill, plus aspects of personality.

InPresence 0003: The Power of Suggestion with Jeffrey Mishlove

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. Other uses include athletic performance, memory, self-esteem and health. For those who are uncertain how to begin using this technique, a link is provided to a guided meditation process with Jeffrey.

InPresence 0002: Unconditional Self Love with Jeffrey Mishlove

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in “parapsychology” ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). Here he shares the importance of unconditional self love as a core principle of human development and transformation. He maintains that Self is our larger consciousness and is quite distinct from ego. He proposes that unconditional self love involves a warm positive feeling toward oneself no matter what one says, thinks, feels, or does. Ultimately, this form of self-love is akin to unconditional acceptance of the whole of humanity and even the whole universe. Some practices are presented.

Learning to Use Extrasensory Perception with Charles T. Tart

Charles T. Tart, PhD, is emeritus professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis, as well as the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. He is a past-president of the Parapsychological Association. He has published over 100 scientific papers in parapsychology. He is editor of several anthologies including Altered States of Consciousness, Transpersonal Psychologies, Mind at Large, and Body Mind Spirit: Exploring the Parapsychology of Spirituality. Books that he has authored include Psi: Scientific Studies in the Psychic Realm, States of Consciousness, The End of Materialism, Learning to Use Extrasensory Perception, On Being Stoned, Waking Up, and Open Mind – Discriminating Mind.

Here he describes the “decline effect” in parapsychology research as the result of a psychological “extinction paradigm”. Having subjects repeat a boring task without feedback, in many different disciplines, results in a decline of ability. His research involved training ESP using an automated system, involving forced choices with feedback. Subjects were pre-screened for ESP ability. As predicted, ESP scores did not decline. Tart then shifted to research on remote viewing, in which a single trial may take an entire half-day. Remote viewing subjects routinely receive feedback; and decline effects have not been reported among remote viewers. Tart also describes the difficulties of conducting psi research in a college setting with student subjects.
